Why fencing
Fencing rewards the same instincts that make people good at fast, tactical games — quick decisions, reading an opponent, and committing to a plan in a split second. The difference is you get fit doing it. Many of our members say it's the most engaging workout they've ever done, simply because they're too busy thinking to notice they're training.
Where to start
The club itself does not currently run beginner classes. If you're new to fencing, we recommend starting with one of the introductory programs offered by clubs in the area:
Once you've got the basics down, you're welcome to join us at Wednesday night practice.
At the club
If you'd rather just see what fencing looks like first, drop by on a Wednesday evening (7–9 PM, Brockton Preparatory School, 3467 Duval Rd). We'll show you the three weapons, answer questions, and you'll get to watch live electric foil, épée and sabre.
We don't run beginner classes ourselves, but anyone is welcome to join and fence at whatever level they're at. That said, fundamentals matter a lot in fencing — a beginner program at one of the clubs above is the fastest way to get up to speed.
Equipment
Beginner programs typically supply equipment for class, but you'll need your own gear to fence at the club. Ask on our Facebook group or check with our coach about what to buy — introductory sets are available from a number of suppliers, including:
Our coach, Zbigniew Pietrusinski, also sells Allstar fencing equipment directly — a handy way to skip the shipping and border fees.
